Company History

Sharpening Business

• West Ohio Tool Co. began in 1989 as a sharpening business. Initially the business intent was to provide a sharpening service working locally in West Central Ohio.

Regrind full service

• February of 1997 purchased first Walter CNC machine.
• One Employee - first person was hired to assist with the heavy volume of work. 
• EWAG - regrind of Diamond and CBN Tools.

Manufacturing of Specials

• January 1998 purchased second Walter Machine.
• Three Employees - Through Reputation - quality and delivery WOT grew rapidly. 
• Began working in the Specials market in small quantity. 
• December 1998 added third Walter Machine with robotic loader. 
• Because of growth did not have enough capacity to do regrind and manufacture specials. 
• January 1999 WOT had grew to five employees. 
• Manufacturing large volumes of router bits and metal working specials.

Manufacture of Special Tools

• Through 2000 - planned to expand company and build new facility in the Indian Lake Industrial Park - Russells Point, Ohio.
• December 2000 - moved to new facility. 
• Eight Employees Total. 
• Added the Centerless Grinder, became vertically integrated to full production from raw blank to finished project. 
• Added CNC OD grinding.

Production Tools and Regrind Specials

• January 2001 added two more employees.
• Purchased fourth Walter Power Machine. 
• Volume continued to grow - mostly manufacturing new tools while maintaining regrind work. 
• Fall 2003 WOT added Power + Diamond Walter Machine for PcBN and PCD tool regrind. 
• Volumes had increased and required higher quality process as well as speed.
• Spring 2005 brought in an additional production/tool engineer. Added Walter Vision updated Helicheck, Autodesk Inventor 3D modeling software and proprietary work order tracking system.
• We have a total of 15 employees. 
• Fall of 2010 added Vollmer QWD 760
• Summer of 2011 added Vollmer QWD 760H with robot.

We will continue to build business and grow through advanced Engineering and Design of “Critical Custom Tools” as well as elimination of variance with professional CNC service.
